Common questions about our IT, cybersecurity, and camera services across East Texas.
About Dogwood Security
Who is Dogwood Security? +
Dogwood Security LLC is a veteran-owned managed IT, cybersecurity, and physical security company headquartered in Palestine, Texas. We serve businesses across East Texas — including Tyler, Longview, Texarkana, and Lufkin — and the DFW metro.
What areas do you serve? +
We are based in Palestine, TX and serve all of East Texas, including Tyler, Longview, Texarkana, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, and surrounding counties, plus the DFW metro. On-site work is scheduled from Palestine, so most East Texas locations get same-day response.
Are you a licensed security contractor in Texas? +
Physical security installs are led by a licensed installer holding a Texas Electronic Access Control credential. Our Texas DPS Class B Security Contractor license is currently in process — we will update our site when it is issued.
Are we locked into a long-term contract? +
There is a 12-month initial agreement on all plans. After that, engagements are month-to-month. We do not use long contracts as a substitute for doing good work.
Managed IT
What does managed IT include? +
A flat-rate service covering 24/7 endpoint monitoring via NinjaOne, managed EDR with human threat hunting via Huntress, full environment documentation in IT Glue, OS and third-party patching, verified 3-2-1-1-0 backups, business-hours help desk with after-hours on-call, and quarterly business reviews.
How much does managed IT cost? +
It is priced per seat and per site, scoped to your actual environment after a discovery call. The number depends on workstation and server count, line-of-business applications, coverage needs, and number of locations. We put the number on paper — we do not quote over the phone.
What happens in an after-hours IT emergency? +
You call a real number. After-hours on-call is included for outages and emergencies, and what counts as an emergency is defined in the service agreement before you sign it.
Cybersecurity
What cybersecurity plans do you offer? +
Three tiers. Essentials: managed EDR, email security, Microsoft 365/Google Workspace hardening, and awareness training. Recommended adds vulnerability scanning, phishing simulation, and on-call incident response — the right fit for most law firms, CPAs, and medical practices. Compliance adds gap assessments, documentation, an incident response retainer with SLA, and annual tabletop exercises.
Can you help with HIPAA, CMMC, or FTC Safeguards compliance? +
Yes. Our Compliance tier is built for regulated businesses: HIPAA technical safeguards for medical practices, CMMC Level 1/2 and NIST 800-171 readiness for defense suppliers, FTC Safeguards Rule programs for dealerships, and IRS Publication 4557 written information security plans for CPA firms and tax preparers.
Do small East Texas businesses really get targeted? +
Yes — most attacks are automated. Bots scan every internet-connected system regardless of company size or location, and small businesses without security staff are preferred targets precisely because attackers assume nobody is watching. Cyber insurance carriers have responded by requiring MFA, EDR, and verified backups on most policies.
Cameras & Physical Security
What does it cost to install security cameras for a small business? +
Our Starter package begins at $89/month in year one — two UniFi cameras, a local NVR with 30-day recording, remote viewing, and monthly health checks. After the 12-month agreement it drops to $40/month for monitoring only, and the hardware is yours. Standard (4 cameras) is $179/month year one, Premium (8 cameras) is $299/month year one.
Do you store our camera footage in the cloud? +
No. By default all footage is stored on a local NVR on your property, under your control. Cloud replication is available if you want it, but it is not the default and is not required by any plan. There are no monthly cloud storage fees.
How long does a camera installation take? +
A standard 2–4 camera install at a single-story commercial space typically takes one day. Larger jobs — solar poles, conduit runs, enclosed networking gear, or multi-building coverage — take two to three days, with a written scope of work before the job starts.
Do you offer access control and networking too? +
Yes. Door access control starts at $99/month (year one) for a single managed door, and managed networking starts at $119/month — all built on UniFi hardware, so cameras, access, and network run on one platform.
